The gym can sometimes be an awkward place with its own culture and rules. It can often be intimidating to walk up to someone and speak to them about their workout routine or simply strike up a friendly conversation. But fear not! With these three tips, you can break down the gym walls and spark a conversation with your fellow gym goers. Who knows, you might end up with a new gym buddy…or even something more.

Try To Relate

I’ve been known to give the side-eye to people who just randomly start talking to me about something I know nothing about or have interest in. When I’m at the gym, I’m focused on working out and that focus is usually the perfect conversation starter. If you hear someone working out next to you talking about a marathon and you’ve run one (or plan to), chime in. See someone lifting weights and they have nice arms, strike up a convo about ways to get definition. Relating to someone is one of the best ways to break the ice and develop a common bond.

  1. These are good tips although I don’t do a whole lot of chit chatting when I am focused on getting my routine in for the day. However if you don’t know what you doing I strongly encourage folks to ask the trainers or another gym member after they have finished their set when performing an exercise you’d like to incorporate into to your own regimine.
