Far from dumb, he’s a shrewd, calculating, race-baiting, incendiary bigot who finds immense joy in fueling the prejudices of his listeners. What I didn’t know, but swiftly found out as advertisers distanced themselves from the “slut” comment heard ‘round the world, is that he is also bought and paid for, guilty of prostituting himself to the highest bidder while pretending to be an independent, uncensored commentator.

And here I thought he was all “mavericky.”

After years and years of racist and hateful material, what could possibly get advertisers and even conservative comrade, Speaker John Boehner upset at the “Voice of the GOP”?

Obviously, it wasn’t that he called President Barack Obama a “bi-racial oreo” or his recurring character, Bo Snerdley, who touts that he is certified to speak on Black issues because he has a “heavy dose of pure, unadulterated organic slave blood” before proceeding to speak with perfect diction then shifting to “ebonics” so the “hood” can understand him?

  • What about when he told a Black woman caller to “take the bone out her nose and call him back?
  • Or how about when he said that the NFL looked like a shoot-out between the Bloods and the Crips without guns?
  • Or when he said that Black people are only “12 percent of the population, [so] who the hell cares?”

No, those were all just matters of free speech – at least in GOP Land. What’s a couple of “nigger” jokes among friends, right?

It took Rush Limbaugh to call a young law student, Sandra Fluke, a “slut” and a “prostitute” on his nationally syndicated radio show for his cronies to hit him where it hurts the most – his pockets. After suggesting that Fluke’s parents couldn’t be proud of her — and before he said that if he’s going to pay for birth control, then women who use it should make sex tapes so that men, i.e. the “pimps” and the “johns,” could see what they paid for, Rushy had this to say:

“What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.”

It mattered not to Limbaugh that Fluke was speaking on behalf of a friend who suffered with ovarian cancer — that may have been prevented with birth control pills — and not herself. What burrowed in Limbaugh’s twisted mind was the idea that women actually have sex and that some of them actually chose to use birth control to avoid pregnancy. And if that be the case, then how dare they expect tax-paying citizens to pick up the tab on their sexcapades?

This guy.

What I find most interesting is that there has been no scandalized outcry over the millions of dollars that Medicaid pays out to men for their erectile dysfunction. No mention of the “loophole” that allows men to walk into a doctor’s office, leaving with a diagnosis of “pulmonary hypertension” and a prescription for the happy blue pills while women have to fight for the most basic of gynecological health benefits.

Insurance should pay for birth control because women’s health is vastly different than men’s and we shouldn’t be penalized for being born with uteri, ovaries and fallopian tubes. It’s just that simple. Reproductive health and general health go hand and hand. Furthermore, if men are so worried about birth control then maybe they should stop having sex with women. That would solve everything in a heartbeat.

But no, many of them would rather go pop Viagra and judge “promiscuous” women while watching pornos.

Hopefully, Rush’s smackdown by his corporate pimps will serve as warning for him to tread a little more carefully when he decides to throw slurs at innocent women – but I doubt it. The man is a proven racist, homophobe, sexist, lying, antagonistic asshole who obviously hides behind his white skin and a microphone.

Reports state that Fluke is considering legal action against Limbaugh for his unconscionable statements and if that be the case, this saga is far from over. A cursory inspection of what constitutes slander and defamation of character proves that Rushy may have bitten off more than he can chew this time:

As the plaintiff, Fluke bears the burden of proof. She must be able to show, in a court of law, that the defendant was the one who made the statement(s) in question; (b) that the statement(s) were false; (c) that the statement(s) harmed her in some way (e.g. by damaging her reputation); and (d) that the statement(s) were made in the presence of third parties, i.e. of person(s) other than the defendant and the plaintiff.

Check, check, check, and check.

Though this is a media maelstrom where political and financial pressure dictated the outcome, maybe it’s also a slight indication that one election cycle coming soon, neither women, our sexual habits nor our reproductive health will be used as bait for politicians, evangelicals and so-called radio “personalities” to scrutinize at will.

Maybe.

Until then, here’s to hoping that Limbaugh will soon be telling that pathetic apology to a judge.

  1. Okay, I know I’ll be the minority on this liberal site that claims it’s “radically conservative” but anywayz, I don’t think women should ever choose abortion but no one should tell them what they should do with their bodies. Abortion is murder, no “if” “”ands” or “buts” about it. The fact that the government wants to force people to go along with this is crazy. I have always found it absurd that people say that they love freedom but allow the government to intrude into their lives by taking their money in the form of taxes to fund these pet Democratic programs that don’t slow down the rate of abortion or sexually transmitted disease. Freedom is freedom and this issue was way overblown on the left and right.

    • @Shawn West: I don’t disagree with your stance on abortion. Like you I believe, however, that it is the woman’s choice and it is not my place to tell her what to do with her body and I don’t think it is my place to force feed others my beliefs. The contraceptive issue though, is where we part. I have problems with the prolife side who also opposes the open access to birth control. To reduce unwanted pregnancies we need birth control and sex ed in schools. And if we want these kids to have their kids then we need to help them take care of them which means social programs. You can’t have it both ways.
