The new ESSENCE cover is here!

The December issue of ESSENCE magazine is of Olympian champion Gabrielle Douglas, the 16-year-old gymnast who became the first African American to win gold in both the individual and all-around gymnastics competition this year.

Since winning, Douglas has been everywhere. From the couch with media-maven Oprah, to seated next to the First Lady on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Douglas has got everyone watching. Not too long after winning, she become the new face for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes where she sported her gold medal on the cereal box.

I couldn’t be happier to see a bright young face on ESSENCE’s cover, and though this is one of many magazines that she has been the face of – she’s also been on TIME, PEOPLE, and Jet — it’s her first one for ESSENCE, and probably one of my favorites.

If you’re interested in more, check out her Behind the Scenes shoot with ESSENCE back in August.
