This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month and many of us, directly or indirectly, have been touched in some way by this devastating disease.

While there is no one factor that causes breast cancer, diet and a healthy lifestyle can reduce cancer risk by as much as 38 percent. Try these three superfoods considered to possibly help aid in the fight against breast cancer. Every bite is good for the soul … and our breasts.

Pomegranate

Pomegranates are known for their anti-cancer properties, thanks to a richness in anti-inflammatory antioxidants, polyphenols. But research also shows that a phytochemical found in pomegranates, called ellagitannins, interfere in the production of aromatase, an enzyme that increases hormone production in breast tissue.

This is makes pomegranate a great ally in the fight because breast cancer is a hormone-dependent disease, so the less hormones available to feed off of, the better the chances.

Broccoli

Broccoli always makes a great addition to any meal, but did you know this green giant is also a great breast cancer fighter?

Broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane that actually helps the body fight the spread of tumors.

Sulforaphane may inhibit an enzyme, called an HDAC that works to suppress the body’s tumor fighting ability. Looks like living green is good for you after all.

Walnuts

If you’re like me, you probably only add walnuts to your chocolate brownies, but there is an even better reason to add walnuts to your diet.

Research has shown that including walnuts in your diet can possibly reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by as much as half.
