Just when we were starting to believe he was really back, singer El DeBarge was arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles in an apparent drug bust. Apparently, DeBarge was allegedly attempting to unload some of his stash when he was spotted by a cop.
El was popped around 2 PM in Encino, CA … after LAPD officers observed him participating in what appeared to be a drug deal with another man near the 101 Freeway.
DeBarge was arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to sell. It’s the 3rd time El has been arrested for drug possession since 2001.
He was hauled to a nearby jail where he was booked and released on $30k bail. El is due back in court next month.
This isn’t his first time dealing with the law. El has famously suffered with drug addiction for years and spent time in prison, but in the past year his comeback looked like it was almost certain.
Sadly, El isn’t the only DeBarge who’s had trouble with the law. His brother James is currently serving time for assault and drugs, and his younger brother Chico’s stint in prison inspired his debut album.
God bless him. I hope he gets it together. Folks who’ve never struggled with an addiction don’t know how hard it is to not get caught up in it again. It gets easier with time and prayer but the person has to want it bad enough. There also will be times when your doing great and something happens to have you want to go back to the addictive behavior again. Again God bless him.
