Genetically Modified Organisms
Despite many efforts to push Proposition 37 into effect, the California bill failed short yesterday. The proposition called for manufacturers to label foods containing GMOs – which are said to be in 70 to 80 percent of all processed foods sold in America.
Supporters of Proposition 37 said that consumers have a right to know whether their food has been genetically altered. Despite the proposition’s crushing defeat it has awakened wider awareness about food supply safety issues which is still of great environmental concern and should be a priority agenda item for President Obama.
