Someone asked me today if I was going to see Alex Cross when it’s released in theaters. As a fan of everything James Patterson, I chuckled and asked if they’d already done a remake and added a new actor as Alex Cross. Unfortunately, they haven’t. Perry stars as the title homicide detective in the upcoming Alex Cross movie based on Patterson’s best-selling series.
In his recent interview with Men’s Health, Tyler Perry discusses his 30 pound weight loss in preparation for playing Alex Cross. “I walk into a room with a lot more confidence. All my life I’ve tried to hide my height. I was taller than everybody else and stood out, so I would slouch and try to hide it. But with what I’ve been able to do with my body, I’m owning it. I’m standing up when I walk into a room. Now, I feel like it’s okay to be thought of as sexy.”
He’s owning it. You go, Tyler.
Most people have gotten used to Tyler Perry in his Madea roles, so playing an edgier character will definitely be a change of pace.
“With Alex Cross, people say it’s off-brand, a little different. But it’s on purpose. They release it here, release it internationally, and now my stock has gone up on my own catalogs. Everything is about moving the ship forward … Outside the ship doesn’t matter. What’s in the ship is mine, and it’s going in the direction I think it should go.”
Who knows, maybe with the success of Alex Cross, Tyler will put away the moo-moos and wigs, and try his hands are more action movies to broaden his appeal.
Do you think Tyler Perry can be convincing in the role of Alex Cross? Do you plan on seeing the movie?
