I was mortified when I learned that after my first year of working in an office setting I’d gained about fifteen pounds. “How could this be?” I thought to myself. I wasn’t in the dark for too long, though. Once I began to reflect back to our fabulously catered holiday parties, elaborate lunch outings and the fact that we celebrated birthdays and passed around birthday cake at least once a week it all began to make sense. According to the Center for American Progress, 86 percent of men and 67 percent of women in the U.S work more than 40 hours per week. Since work is where many of us spend the majority of our time, it only makes sense that applying healthy office habits can assist in conditioning us to practice healthier life habits.
