It’s tempting to make your home all warm and toasty during the cold weather, but it could make you a couch potato. A group of researchers at University College London found that people burned more calories when their homes were kept cooler. The shivering, hormonal actions and adaptive behaviors that occur in response to the cold helped some people burn as many as 400 calories per day.
