Summer is in full swing. It’s the time of year where swimsuits and tank tops dominate our wardrobes to show off our beautiful skin and shape. We find any excuse possible to get out and play in the very hot sun. We are only half way through the season and around the country, there are reports of record breaking heat waves. How many times have you heard yourself saying, “It’s just too hot!” And to make matters worse, you were only walking from the shopping center exit to your car. Everyone is racing to the nearest air conditioner and patrolling parked cars for signs of animal cruelty. Don’t leave Fido locked in with the windows rolled up! That one is a given. But what are some other “Do’s & Don’ts” to help keep you on track with your fitness goals this summer?
Feeling a little distracted? Summer is not only hot, but pretty busy. There is wedding season, travel season, out-door festival season, and family reunion season all rolled into this 3 month block. Sounds like fun! But what about fitness? If you have finally settled into a workout routine, going on vacation can upset the flow. You might find yourself skipping your workout days because it is just too hot to sweat. You cannot be too hot or too busy to do you. Don’t get caught in a summer slump where you lose sight of your health and wellness goals. You’re not a slacker, so don’t blame your vacation or the weather. Check out these tips for staying on track and breeze right through the rest of the season!
1. Drink less coffee and more water to keep your body hydrated and cool with fewer calories from hot drinks every day. Plus, some coffee drinks with the Carmel sauce and whipped cream are about a million calories! Okay not really, but close enough.
2. Walk and run before you are faced with the sun. Start your workout regimen early in the morning. Noon is usually the hottest point in the day because the sun is directly overhead. That means the earlier you are able to begin your outdoor workout, the more likely you will be able to get in your regular physical activity without having your energy completely drained. Not a morning person? Try an evening run. Don’t miss an opportunity just because the clock says evening. Sun down can be close to 8pm, so use your time wisely.
