Put down the coffee. Close your computers. If you want to make friends it’s time to stick your head outside of the house, and head to your nearest gym.
Fitness centers have become the new hub for socializing and meeting friends. Working out offers a quick camaraderie while on the elliptical machine, treadmill, or lifting weights. Since people are social creatures, interacting with someone at the gym not only creates a physical bond it’s a great tool for mental health.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, gaining the benefits of exercise while keeping them off the couch, training twice-a-day seems to help singles just as much any other alternative way to meet other singles:
For anyone still squeamish about online dating, this is arguably just as effective,” said April Masini, writer of the critically acclaimed ‘Ask April’ advice column. “There are lots of singles working out in gyms, running on high school tracks on weekends, through the park, at the local YMCA pool or at the beach.”
It’s also no secret that friendships develop between people with similar interests. So why not plan to lose 15 pounds with another gym goer who’s also on a weight loss track. If socializing doesn’t interest you as much, get involved in a competitive sport where you can both meet people and engage in activity.
Either way, get up and go to the gym!
Do you like to make friends at the gym? Have you?
Great idea! Couldn’t agree more!
