Eat Less Sugar
Americans consume 475 calories of added sugars every day (that’s 30 teaspoons), which is way higher than what’s recommended by the American Heart Association. Eating too much sugar has been linked to diseases like high blood pressure and heart disease. In order to eat clean and detoxify, try skipping processed foods and instead of satisfying your sweet tooth with sweets, try eating fruits instead.
Eat Less Salt
Americans consume about 1,000 mg of salt a day more than we should. Just cutting back on salty foods can lower your risk of heart disease by 9 percent! Processed foods and restaurant foods are some of the biggest culprits when it comes to high sodium. Try eating out less and cooking at home more using fresh fruits and veggies, as well as fresh herbs and spices to flavor your food instead of salt.
