Former American world No.1, Serena Williams, who has injured her left ankle has decided to pull out of this week’s Monterrey Women Tennis Association, which is scheduled to be held this week from February 20-26, 2012.
According to CBS Sports, Serena has received an invitation form the tournament officials to for the 2012 Monterrey Open, which is set to kickoff from Monday. However, the organizers said, they had received a statement from the WTA saying that the 13-times grand slam champion would not be able to accept the invitation, due to ankle injury.
Serena even after pulling out of competition has played an exhibition match against Argentine world No.64, Gisela Dulko and enjoyed a light practice session on a water court on the Santa Lucia River walk on Sunday February 19, 2012.
13-grand slam champion, Serena this season has played just two-WTA tournament and Fed cup tournament.
Earlier, she has been withdrawn form Brisbane Open and later, she was knocked out in fourth round of the 2012 Australian grand slam tournament.
Earlier this month, she won two singles ties in as United States dispatched Belarus 5-0 in their Fed Cup World Group-II clash in New York.
Serena is scheduled to play her next tournament in Miami.
