Now we all have a small amount of knowledge regarding the whereabouts of R&B songstress Mya, who has clearly been hiding in and around the local trails, keeping her fabulous shape intact by pounding the pavement. Why, you ask? You guessed it, she’s training for the marathon! The Grammy Award-winning singer will join fifty other animal-loving athletes aiming to raise $200,000 for the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens of North Shore Animal League America, as members of Team Animal League in the ING New York City Marathon.
The North Shore Animal League finds homes for over 20,000 homeless companion animals each year. At least one of those animals founds a home with Mya. The singer has five companions, one of which is a cat named Mellow who was adopted from the Animal League.
Mya said about her involvement with the organization, “The Animal League’s mission, saving the lives of precious animals, is one that touches my heart. I am excited to join Team Animal League’s runners, each of whom treasures the beautiful and innocent shelter animals known as Mutt-i-grees® and is equally committed to helping save as many lives as possible.”
This will be the fourth year that the North Shore Animal League will participate in the run. Since Beth Stern, spokesperson for the organization, founded Team Animal League as a runner, they have raised over half a million dollars for the cause.
