Will Mays, arguably the greatest baseball player of all-time, established the standard of greatness for baseball: the five-tool player.
LIFE magazine put together some keen photos of the industrious “Say Hey Kid.” Most of pictures are from his 1954 season, a campaign that Mays put up astounding numbers: 41 home runs, .354 batting average, and a National League MVP.
But what’s particularly interesting was what did the G.O.A.T. eat.
It looks like milk was the supplement of choice for Mays. It also illustrates that Mays was an eggs and bacon type of guy, along with a little oatmeal or cream of wheat. Nothing overly processed …
But what’s stunning is how small and mundane his apartment looked, especially for someone who was as big as Mays.
