This is what a $400,000 purse can get you in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. After narrowly escaping with a victory in the octagon, Jon “Bones” Jones was rushed to the hospital to tend to his mangled face and injured left leg.
Jones’ opponent Alexander Gustafsson posted an Instagram picture of him and the champ, both looking like Martin Lawrence after he fought Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns — at least Martin was a fictional sitcom.
According to multiple reports — with, perhaps, a little nudging from UFC
dictator president Dana White — many folks are drumming up a conspiracy theory that contends that the judges who all scored the match for Jones cheated to keep Gustafsson, who’s doesn’t have the star power Jones currently holds, from gaining the title. Rematch for sure!
UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta said he scored the fight for Jones, and was quoted by ESPN saying: “Watched twice. I scored for [Jones] but both guys showed incredible toughness.”
Both Jones and Gustafsson were hospitalized Saturday. Jones suffered a left leg injury and will be re-examined later in the week, sources confirmed to ESPN.com. Gustafsson was released Sunday morning with no serious injuries.
