Small Plate … Big Calories

As someone who visits Spain almost yearly, I am all about tapas, but when tapas made their way to the States, they became supersized like the rest of America’s menus.

An order of my favorite dish, patatas bravas (fried potatoes with spicy mayo) weighs in at around 500 calories and the supposedly lighter options like a pesto shrimp and avocado crostini can run 640 calories per order.

Also, because you’re not sitting for a full meal, your mind can trick you into not feeling full which causes you to order more food than you normally would.

Try sticking to two plates and make one is protein and one is veggies, so you feel satisfied and don’t splurge on a third (less wholesome) mini dish.
