Kerry Washington is having a hell of a year. The actress not only spoke at this year’s Democratic National Convention, but she’s also the star of ABC’s hit political drama, Scandal. In addition to keeping viewers on the edge of their seats each and every Thursday night, Washington will hit big screens this Christmas in Quentin Tarantino’s slavery-era drama, Django Unchained. To say Kerry’s been grinding would be an understatement.

Recently, the Bronx-bred beauty covered the December issue of ‘Women’s Health’ magazine, and discussed her upcoming film, her hit TV show, her favorite snacks, and if she’d ever consider running for political office.

On prepping for Django Unchained:

“One of the things that I really love most about my job is the research part of it….So, I studied a lot. It’s kind of hard to articulate the level of preparation that we all had to do for this film because so much of it was emotional and psychological preparation. It’s hard to talk about because we all had to go into a part of American history that is so dark and complicated and fraught with the past sins of this country.” 

On what she’d be doing if she wasn’t an actress:

“If I wasn’t an actress, I would probably be a teacher. Either an elementary school teacher or a yoga teacher. Both of which I did when I was living in New York pursuing a career in acting. I liked doing both of those things very much. I think it would surprise people to know that what I really wanted to do as a child was to be the woman in the Shamu show at Sea World. And the big joke in my family is that I started taking Marine Biology and I was like, forget the whale, I’ll just be on stage by myself.” 

On her go to snacks:

“I am not a vegan, but I like vegan protein shakes. I mix them with coconut water instead of regular water. That’s my secret to having them taste better. I love popcorn. I could live on popcorn. The writers of Scandal have made my character Olivia Pope have a similar relationship with popcorn. But I don’t mind because I get to eat popcorn at work.”

Washington, who looks amazing in her ‘Women’s Fitness’ spread, has been working with celeb trainer David Kirsch to maintain her fabulous physique. Kirsch recently sat down with to share a few of the ways he keeps Washington in tip top shape.

According to Kirsch, he and Washington take a holistic approach to her fitness regimen.

“So much of what Kerry and I do focuses on connecting her brain to her body,” he told Celebuzz. “She is simply gorgeous and exercise keeps her connected to that belief,” he continued. “When she’s exercising and using some of my David Kirsch Wellness supplements, she’s at the top of her game – mentally, physically and spiritually.”

Kirsch also broke down the star’s fitness routine:

Toned Abs & Arms 

“For Kerry’s abs and arms, I primarily use a stability ball and light hand weights,” Kirsch said. “My favorite exercises for her are stability ball knee tucks and push-ups. These are great for helping keep her arms and abs sculpted, sexy and toned.”

Tight Legs and Back End
“I stick to exercises that lengthen, tighten and keep her already beautiful legs and butt sculpted. Sumo lunges, reverse crossover lunges and single leg dead lifts are particularly effective. The beauty with all of these exercises is that Kerry is extremely disciplined and does these exercises on her own when she’s on the road or on the movie set.”

Washington is one of the sexiest (and smartest) women in Hollywood, and from the looks of things, she’ll remain in high demand for years to come.
