Hydrofracking

Also known as hydraulic fracturing this process calls for a fairly new economical and technological method which enables natural gas producers to recover natural gas from dense shale formations. One of the most invasive methods of obtaining fossil fuel, it requires cutting down vast areas of forests and as noted by the Environmental Protection Agency adds stress on surface and ground water (requires almost 8 million tons of water), creates environmental wastes and results in the release of volatile organic compounds, air pollutants and greenhouse gases.

Though it will lessen our dependence on foreign oil and resources, this process needs further regulation and evaluation by our government before drilling begins.
