We should be accustomed to celebrities fluctuating weight by now. They are, after all, just like us. But where some celebs sit back and ignore the scrutiny, (see Jessica Simpson), others fight back. This time it’s Lady Gaga who’s under the gun for her 25 pound weight gain.

My first reaction when I looked at the pictures from a recent performance in Amsterdam, was, “Hmm, she’s a little thicker, a lot shapelier, but it’s not ridiculous.”

It seems she feels the same. The singer told radio host, Elvis Duran, “I love eating pasta and pizza. I’m a New York Italian girl. That’s why I have been staying out of New York. My father opened a restaurant. It’s so amazing. It’s so freaking delicious, but I’m telling you I gain five pounds every time.”

Personally, I’m happy she’s embraced a little food. She started a media storm when she took to Twitter in April to talk about how she wasn’t eating nearly as much as she wanted too, tweeting, “Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger. #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay.”

But if asked whether or not she regrets the weight gain, it’s clear that she couldn’t care less.

“I really don’t feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly.” She told Duran. “It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that. So I’m trying to find a new balance.”

That balance seems to have arrived, somewhere between the image of a painstakingly starved Gaga and this curvier one.

On Tuesday September 25th, the 26-year-old launched BodyRevolution 2013 on her Little Monsters website, where she makes a surprising revelation that she’s struggled with both anorexia and bulimia since she was 15-years-old. Posed in a yellow bra and underwear, she encourages everyone to showcase and embrace their flaws. And in a letter penned to her fans, she thanks them for sticking by her side.

“I have been startled and overwhelmed with pride and emotion the past few days. Gratitude mostly. Seeing you post photos of things on your bodies and in your minds that you feel society tells you you should be ashamed of. You are showing them you have no shame,” Gaga wrote. “My weight/loss/gain since i was child has tormented me. No amount of help has ever healed my pain about it. But YOU have. My boyfriend prefers me curvier, when i eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks, I’m happy. Happier than I’ve ever been. I am not going to go on a psycho-spree because of scrutiny. This is who I am. And I am proud at any size. And i love you, and want you to be proud in any form you may take as well.”

Good for her. What are your thoughts?

  1. I think she looks great. When I saw the after pics I thought it was the before. goal is to be happy and healthy, don’t have to be skinny

  2. Ok, now the media knows that they need to stop. If that is the after effects of a 25 pound weight gain, I must be obese! I’m 5’5 and 128 pounds and I look about the same body type as Lady GaGa in the yellow underwear pics. I know I look good, so has the world gone insane?..j/k, but not really -_-

  3. In my opinion, the only time you really have to worry about your weight is if it’s damaging your health.
