Everywhere you look the world has become obsessed with the “Washboard Male,” you know, that guy with the intricately chiseled six pack and a smile. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen a man or two with a cut up body and the view literally took my breath away, definitely a sight to behold…and hold. However, in this world of washboard stomachs, my heart really lies elsewhere. You see, I’m not on a hunt for a man with abs as hard a steel, I’m proud to say that I actually like a little belly on my man.

Now before we go any further let me say that “belly” does not mean that I like for my man to have a stomach of Black Buddha aka Rick Ross proportions, nor does it mean I want him obese and unhealthy. What it does mean is that I like the fact that he’s not “perfect,” that he doesn’t fit the billboard size standard of “the norm.” I don’t want a carbon copy of some Calvin Klein ad or unattainable Hollywood hunk, I want a man’s man and most of those come with a little something extra around the middle.

To me, a man with a little belly has lived. He’s enjoying life and eating well, and if I’m the one feeding him, that little pooch is my Olympic gold medal. The belly gives him a bit of character and shows how well he’s wearing his age much like a beard gives a man’s face the air of distinction. It gives me something to hold on to at night and make playful fun of during the day. When I see my man and his hard earned, grown man belly all I want to do is feed him steak and rub it. Rub it and ask him how his day was, rub it and let him know this minor imperfection is one of the things I love most about him, rub and well … you know.

To some a belly on a man is gross and that’s fine, to each his own I always say. But in my world a little belly on a man is sexy and no amount of media induced brainwashing will ever change my mind. I mean, I’m not perfect, I’ve got a little sumthin’ sumthin’ for him to hold on to, so why should he be sculpted to perfection? So to all my handsome, hardworking, treadmill running, but never losing that belly brothers out there, you and your belly are appreciated. And if your woman at home doesn’t appreciate it, know that there are women out there just like me waiting to welcome you into our lives with love and a good belly rub.
