Ruby Carter-Pikes looks great! Hold on, that’s an understatement. There are really no words for how much inspiration one picture of this 64-year-old bodybuilder can give a person who is on a fitness journey.

AOL Black Voices profiled the Los Angeles-based great-grandmother earlier, and in no time flat, Ruby was trending throughout cyberspace. And for good reason. Pikes is a world-class bodybuilder, competing against women three times her junior.

According BV, Ruby credits her discipline to her family’s tough luck when it comes to health:

On her BodyPROUD.org profile, Ruby shares that her grandmother died at 57 years old, after being diagnosed with a heart problem and high cholesterol; her mother battled diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease; and her sister’s leg was amputated as a result of diabetes. And if that wasn’t enough, Ruby’s niece was diagnosed with diabetes at the tender age of 11 years old.

Now that’s the attitude that produces successful people who aren’t willing to accept obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure as the normal progression of old age.
