Grammy-award winning songstress Monica appeared on the Emmy-award winning program Inside the NBA — promoting her latest album, New Life, and having a blast with the hosts.
Monica, 31, was right at home at the TNT studios in her hometown of Atlanta. Now that she is a legitimate basketball wife, co-hosts Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith made sure they gave her the third degree about her Phoenix Suns husband Shannon Brown. Monica and Shannon married last year and although Monica reps everything ATL, she emphatically said “her loyalty lies with whatever jersey her husband has on.” Shannon has played for five teams in his six-year career.
Monica chatted about the nervousness she felt singing the national anthem at the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans last week. Also, she commented on the pageantry and huge stage, claiming it was one of the most nerve-racking experiences she ever had.
Jokingly, co-host Shaquille O’Neal tried his hardest to help Monica relive her Final Four experience, singing back-up after co-host Kenny Smith asked her to give him a sample of her beautiful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Monica wrapped up her duties on Inside by talking about her fondness of her mentor Whitney Houston. Lamenting on Whitney’s passing, Monica imparted these kind words: “She had compassion for others that many didn’t have for her.”
It seems like it was a fun-filled night all around! Check out part 2 of the interview here.
