It seems the best birth control out there, isn’t for women anymore. A new birth control is already being tested on men in India, and has proven to be 100 percent effective.

The procedure is called RISUG (reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance), and is specifically designed for men. A doctor must apply a local anesthetic into the penis, injecting polymer gel (known as Vasalgel in the US), which causes the sperm to break apart.

Though it may seem slightly painful, it takes all of 15 minutes to complete. But get this– it lasts 10 years or more.

According to the Male Contraception Information Project, some men have been using this for more than 15 years in India. It’s safe for use on both humans and animals.

But what happens when a man decides he wants to start a family?

He can opt to take another shot to regulate his sperm again, and after two to three months your body is back to new.
Currently only local men participating in the trials have access to this, but there are hopes that it will be available on the US market by 2015.

I can’t imagine how this could affect sexual relations between men and women in the next few years if this makes it to the market. Though I doubt it will eliminate the need for condoms since the contraceptive doesn’t mention anything about STDs.

What do you think? Would you encourage your man to take a male birth control? Do you think they would want to?

  1. It will never take off, just like vasectomies never really took off either.
