Miley Cyrus is the latest in a series of those who are just under the gaze of media scrutiny over her weight-loss.

The songstress has recently been accused of having an eating disorder, after she was seen looking a bit too thin.

She took to Twitter to let everyone know she didn’t in fact have any disorder, but has been benefiting from her gluten-free diet:

Gluten is the protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. Though she acknowledges gluten as a key in her dieting journey, it has not been found to be a key supplement for weight loss.

Over at MSNBC, Karen Ansel, a registered dietitian and spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, weighs in:

“There’s absolutely no evidence that a gluten-free diet promotes weight loss. However, there is data that indicates that following a gluten-free diet can result in a diet that’s low in key nutrients — especially iron, zinc, and B vitamins such as folate and niacin.”

Many have jumped in on the gluten bandwagon. But for people like Rachel Begun, a dietician who suffers from celiac disease, she recommends that gluten-free diet may be beneficial. She encourages “fresh, wholesome, nutrient-dense foods including gluten-free whole grains, including quinoa, brown and wild rice, amaranth and sorghum, and to seek out fortified gluten-free products.”

Recently, alarming levels of arsenic were found in many gluten-free products, causing many mainstream pop-doctor programs to question whether people should eat gluten-free rices and pastas or just abstain from gluten all together when patients suffer from celiac disease.
