It’s almost here. Before we know it summer will be upon us and that means it will be time to hit the beach. Going to the beach can be daunting task for those out there that don’t fit the status quo when it comes to size. Between not being able to find bathing suits that actually fit to just being intimidated by all the smaller bodies getting their tan on, it’s safe to say that the beach hasn’t always been a plus sized girl’s best friend.

Well not any more!

These days there are a decent amount of designers catering to plus sized women who want to hit the beach and look just as stylish as their smaller counterparts. One swimsuit style making a hit in plus sized fashion is the bikini. Yes plus sized women can wear bikinis too! Check out three reasons why if you’re a plus sized woman, you need to be showing off your curves in a bikini this summer.

They Are Actually Made For Your Body

These bikinis aren’t made from the two pieces of string regular sized bikinis are made from. The latest in plus size swimwear are made to fit, hide and smooth all the areas you might be self conscious about. No need to worry about hanging out all over the place in a regular bikini, designers know you’ve got a little more cushion to work with so their designs are flattering for every plus sized shape. Now you can go out on the beach feeling confident and sexy in your bikini knowing that you look just as hot as everyone else.

They Are Stylish

Have you seen some of the plus sized bikinis out there? They are super cute and super sexy! Designers like Monif C are creating bikinis like this leopard print one that sure to turn heads when you step on the scene. No more covering up in oversized cover ups or wearing tank tops and shorts to the beach, no ma’am! Plus size women know have tons of stylish bikini options to wear…which one will you choose?

Because You Need To Embrace Your Body No Matter What Size You Are

So you can’t wear a teeny Brazilian style bikini. So what! Just because you’re not skinny doesn’t mean you can’t love, embrace and show off what you’re working with. With all the plus size bikini options out there why not show the world that hot and sexy isn’t limited to sizes 0-8. Fashion blogger and stylist Gabi Gregg recently posted pics of herself in a fab retro bikini on her site GabiFresh.com and she hopes that she can inspire the rest of you plus size divas out there to rock out in your bikinis this summer:

“Don’t let body shame keep you from having a good time! I don’t expect everyone to feel comfortable in a two piece, but hopefully I can inspire some of you to take the plunge. I can’t tell you how freeing it is to just have fun without worrying about what other people think.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

What do you think of plus size bikinis? Would you wear one?

  2. Such an inspiring article! I saw Gabi Gregg’s bikini post & was amazed by her fearlessness & confidence. I’ve actually been eying that Monif C leopard print bikini since I first saw it. I’m working on feeling comfortable enough to wear it. This article helps alot! Thank you!!!

  3. I am an 18/20 & 5’10. I bought my first two piece this year from torrid.com. it is super sexy and i cannot wait to try it out! taking the plunge!

    • @Sarah: If you don’t mind, could you send me a picture of you in it? That sounds so weird, but we’re the same measurements and stuff. I promise I’m not some perve! I bet you rocked it though!

  4. I certainly would, if they look anything like the ones tha tyou have pictured here! am a “Curvy Cutie” tha tis also 6ft tall. I do have bad vericouse veins on my legs, this is my hesitancy for “any” shorts or athign Suits. Sugestions?

  5. I definately would! My only hesitation is the awful vericouse veins on the backs of my legs. I am a plus size citie that is also 6 feet tall.

  6. I am 5’5″ and 245 lbs. I would so rock the bikini if my tummy wasn’t HUGE! Like it rolls so much. I can’t even see my belly button! So, I’m not daring enough… But, the monif c black one piece you have showing maybe my summer lover this year! Lol

  7. those swimsuits in the second pic with the leopard print are sooooo cute!!!!

  8. Great news for the plus size woman. They all look great. Looking at these bathing suites though really is inspiring me to keep pushing towards that 1O/11. I’m only 5’6.

  9. Best.article.ever. Biguups Danielle and Frugivore for putting out this encouraging post! Much needed. You have a fan for life here

  10. Good job! If I was plus size this article would make me rush right out and buy one! The styles are too cute! And the ladies look good!

  11. I already rock a bikini, and have for several years. I’m 5′ 8″ and in an 18/20. I got my favorite bikini from Lovemypeaches.com and it fits me perfectly. I refuse to let others people tell me I can’t wear a bikini just because I am plus size. Its what I feel most comfortable in.

I trust all of the plushcious Queen bees who are beautiful fluffy ladies.. wear them with syle/class and elegance.. I am so enamored to see you strut your graceful beauty… I adore you in size 18/20/22/24 and yes I like a 26 in my love mix..

  13. I NEEDED this article. Thank you so much for this!!!! Curvy chicks rock!!!

  14. This is a highly inspiring article. I am 5 foot 8 at about 200 lbs. I’m at the between stage but I certainly am named as a plus size girl. I have a large bottom and stomach but small breasts so I’m not sure these bathing suits would work for me as well as they look on the gorgeous models.
However, this article is 100% correct and women should not feel insecure because of their size!
    Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

  15. It is about time that plus size woman are not made too feel bad about the way we look. We are just as beautiful as those skinny girls.loved the swim suits they are smoking hot!

  16. I REALLY AM HAPPY FOR WOMEN WHO ARE HAPPY IN THEIR SKIN. I AM MUCH BIGGER AND I’M NOT READY FOR A BATHING SUIT. BUT I AM PROUD OF PLUS SIZE WOMEN FOR COMING OUT…

  17. Ok fine BBW and shapely woman I love.

  18. I’m a size 10 and even when I was a 12-14 I was rocking a bikini! If your middle is the narrowest part of your body you should!!

  19. Loved the article, will definitely purchase one!

  20. Thanks for the inspiration to get out there and enjoy fun in the sun in bikini styles made just for us. Great story. I’m a size 20; my belly (with pregnancy stretch marks) looks like the road map of Rome, but some of the bikini bottoms you showed are waist-high and are enough to cover the the worst part of my belly. So thank you! I need a new swimsuit because last summer I was a size 26, so maybe I’ll be bold with a plus-size bikini.

  21. How ironic and timely! I wore my first bikini since in 44 years just THIS WEEKEND!! It was absolutely the most freeing thing I’d done in awhile. There was something so powerful about not giving a care to what anyone thought and feeling those sun rays on my beautiful body, stretchmarks, rolls and all….As a matter of fact, I felt MORE sexy knowing I had the ability to sport my natural self. That confidence is crazily attractive to others…including myself. I left the pool that day with a new sense of self and am determined to apply that bikini/pool experience to my entire life. What else could I accomplish by not caring what others think and walking in my power and confidence?

  22. q hermosas mujeres no se donde puedo encontrra una mujer asi pero soltera y con ganas de salir adelnate de la vida d unos 30 años de edad pero asi buneo espero mi respuesta ami correo si

  23. I’ve been having this debate with myself for several months to wear or not to wear! I’m 6ft 252lbs didn’t really think I had the body but Im seriously thinking I can now! I just might be wearing my very first two piece. Very exciting!

  24. I’ve been a plus size all my life. But I still don’t feel comfortable wearing shorts let alone a bikini. This article is inspiring and I hope I get the confidence to rock one soon. 🙂

  25. gthoh .. i would hate to see big ass stomachs all over the beach. the park is free and payless sells running shoes.

  26. Somewhere in America there is a Tyrone drooling hard over those ladies in the leopard print bikinis.

Tyrone is thinking hard about the many ways he would tear that up.

  27. I believe they should have the right to do whatever they want, and that includes wearing and going to the beach. There is nothing more sexy to me than to see a bbw or ssbbw in a swim suit
at the beach. I must approach them and let them know what a “real woman” looks like everytime I see one or more of them “being themselves”. I am all for empowering women of all sizes but especially of the “plus sizes”. Out in Cali where I live, any day is a summer day and the beaches are always filled with patrons.

  28. @hell NO…that was not a nice comment

  29. I have a friend who always says “The only thing a “skinny” woman can do for him is get out of the way and show him where the big women are”. He is not big himself.

  30. @hell NO – If you don’t like it then don’t look… simple as that.

I think that this is a very inspiring article. I’ve been plus size for most of my adult life and have worn bikinis in the past. Some of these designs are just wonderful and I can’t wait to jump into another one this summer!

  31. Seriously any bbw who wants to go around naked that is between her and her God but as for me my bbw sexy is for my husband only God Willing I get one soon!

  32. Gorgeous! It makes me happy to see people of all sizes baring their wonderful bodies. Confidence is the sexiest thing evarrrr. <3

  33. Beautiful Goddess bodies should be seen if the woman is comfortable sharing

  34. To each his own but I prefer to see a more fit body in a two piece. I used to be 225lbs and would never feel comfortable being in public wearing those suits. After dropping over 80lbs in the last year I’m still not two piece ready until my whole body is tight. Just how I feel. @ “Hell no” I agree

  35. I DEFINITELY will be rockin a 2pc next month on my CRUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Stephanie Burroughs

I’m 5”11 @ 265 and I love the article I would wear all of those I love and embrace my fullness & curves.

  37. I’m a size 16/18 & I always wear a bikini..the “normal” ones from the store.

I’ve never understood why I should feel different just because I have wider hips & a fuller waist. I feel very confident in a bikini, no matter where I am, or who is around.

    p.s, I’m 16. (:

  38. This article was so inspiring for me. I used to be 5’7″ 165 lbs, with a smaller bust and would flaunt a bikini no matter what season it was. But that was 3 years ago. After starting college, I think I gained about 30 lbs and I just haven’t felt the same about my body. Know being 20, I’m 5’9 maybe under 200 lbs? I think. But I love how my bust has filled out more, I have more of the hour glass shape I’ve wanted. My only insecurity is the stretch marks on my inner thighs and my belly being more than a small pooch haha I bought a bikini from Sears, both pieces were made by Bongo and I LOVE them soooo much. The top fits more like a bra for me cuz just buying a bikini top from walmart wouldn’t cover anything lol so change is good in a way. I love seeing plus sized and bbw women strut their stuff in two pieces. I’m just debating still if I should wear a little cover-skirt to hide my stretch marks, I’m going to a waterpark in a few days. To me, when it comes to fashion there shouldn’t be that “one size” cuz we all have our own. Who cares if you’re a size 0 or 22. As long as YOU are happy with your body, then that is all that should matter. So thumbs up ladies! Keep rockin them kinis! <3

  39. Ive been rocking a bikini for a few years. Even a fan of chunky dunking. Im about a 16/18. Wheres the best places to buy the plus bikinis? I prefer halter style and high waist bottom.

  40. Be prepared to spend more than 9.99 for a nice plus-size bikini suit. Monif C’s prices are no joke. Large ladies HAVE to pay to look nice. I am not a fan of the group pic of black ladies bikinis featured in the article (#cheaplooking).

  41. This article is just silly. If readers must be fat, why can’t you inspire them to wear suits that are more flattering to their bodies? A bikini will NEVER look cute on a big girl as portions of the suits have a tenancy to disappear between rolls of skin…note how the woman in the group pic’s belly hangs over her bottoms and how the other ladies’ back fat envelopes their bikini tops. That can’t be comfortable.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a one-piece. Most styles these days are young and modern and SUPPORTIVE. Just because you love yourself doesn’t mean you have to violate the senses of others.

  42. There are certainly a number of particulars like that to take
into consideration. That could be a great level
to bring up. I supply the thoughts above as normal inspiration however clearly there are questions
just like the one you deliver up where a very powerful thing might be
working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged round things like that, but I am certain that your job is clearly identified as a good
game. Each boys and girls really feel the impression of just a moment’s pleasure, for
    the remainder of their lives.

  43. Thanks for the marvelous posting! I truly enjoyed reading it, you happen to be a great author.
I will make sure to bookmark your blog and definitely will come back very soon.
I want to encourage one to continue your great posts, have a nice
    weekend!

  44. Hey there! I simply would like to offer you a big thumbs up
for the great information you’ve got here on this post. I will be coming back to your website for more soon.

  45. What’s up i am kavin, its my first occasion to commenting anywhere, when i read this paragraph i thought i could also create comment due to this brilliant paragraph.

  46. I had to look at a lot of pictures and read a lot of blogs before I could dare to be in a bikini again. I’ve always been on the bigger size and college has not treated my body well (All-You-Care-To-Eat dining centers and late night snacking). My boyfriend has always loved my body but I never have loved my own. The last time I was in a bikini was when I was a sophomore in high school. At that time, I was 5’5″ at about 185lbs. As of now, being a junior in college, I’m 5’5″ at 265lbs with a rather large bust (It’s hard to even find a bra that fits let alone a swimsuit!). I was wearing mostly men’s trunks and a tank top before and finally decided this was the year I would wear a bikini. I found a top and bottom that actually fit my body and when I looked in the mirror, I felt good wearing it and when I felt like I couldn’t wear a bikini, I would put it on and feel amazing in it. I bought a size 16 top and bottom and I’m very excited to rock it at the theme park here in Iowa. 🙂
It shouldn’t matter what size you are. Find a swimsuit you are comfortable in and rock it!

  47. I’m still not too sure about it, I’m quite short, barely 5’2″ and weigh about 205-210 pounds. most of my weight is in my thighs and belly. my measurements are B:45 W:37 H:47 but I also have a short torso so my waist isn’t very long

I don’t know what do you think?

  48. I’m not ready yet, but my bathing suit with the skirt is definitely going to be replaced. And FYI, I may not want to look at other people’s ribs when they are wearing bikinis, but I’m not going to tell underweight women not to wear them. “I don’t want to see that” is not a reason for someone else not to wear what they want. If you don’t like it, look away.

  49. Love to see big women in one piece suits or bikinis, nothing says confidence like them. Keep on wearing them ladies

  50. Hey Danielle, I really like those three bikini styles superbly free-spirited and confident. I read from http://www.enhancementscosmeticsurgery.com/7-fashion-tips-make-fat-look-fab/ some fashion tips and i’m definitely buying those gorgeous bikinis along with my summer dresses .
