Tami Roman, one of the rambunctious leading ladies of the VH1 reality show, “Basketball Wives,” suffered a mild heart attack yesterday:

Her publicist issued this statement: “Last night, Basketball Wives’ Tami Roman was admitted to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center for a medical emergency in Los Angeles. She has since been released and would like to let her fans and supporters know she is doing fine and looks forward to resuming her scheduled engagements. She will also be back on twitter communicating with her followers shortly.”

The 41-year-old reality star is one of the most outspoken women on the show, often in the middle of heated brawls with the other wives. This season, we’ve seen a different side of Tami as she struggles through her anger management sessions with her therapist, admitting to being raped in the past.

Over on Clutch, writer Thembi Ford made a poignant statement regarding Tami’s unfortunate health scare:

It’s not worthwhile to speculate about what caused a woman so young to have a cardiac event; while those who’ve been keeping up with Tami’s 20+ years of stirring up drama on television will probably blame her high-stress lifestyle, none of us know anything about her family history or other factors that could lead to an early heart attack. Regardless of the root cause, we can only hope that Tami will have a speedy recovery and monitor her health moving forward (and a reduced stress lifestyle will probably and hopefully be part of that). But Tami’s situation is one that all black women can learn a lot from. This is a seemingly fit career woman and mother of two teenage children who would assume that she’s in the clear when it comes to the health problems of the aged or obese, but she isn’t. The fact is that any young black woman — under the spotlight of cameras every day or not — could have a heart attack with no foreshadowing. Tami’s hardship should serve as a reminder for all of us to take care of ourselves!

After being released from the hospital she took to twitter today to update her fans on her status:

Life is too short! Fans may wonder, will this health scare make Tami change her ways?

  1. She’ll never change. Her fiery attitude is ingrained into her from her upbringing in New York. She said she knows that her anger is off the chain and she doesn’t do anything about it, so I doubt it.

  2. A forty year old fool is a fool for life.
