Not everyone is fond of Jennifer Hudson’s weight-loss journey. Her Weight Watchers commercials are played ad nauseam along with her public appearances for the company. Everyone who cares about her dramatic shedding of 150 pounds has an opinion about whether or not she looks healthy.

Either way, only time will tell if J Hud enjoys her new life as a slimmer performer and actress, but until the day comes when she opens up completely about her weight loss — which will probably never happen — we can at least have fun with her public persona.

Cue Erica Watson. She is a comedian who claims she shares commonalities with the Oscar winner: both are from the Windy City, both sing a fabulous rendition of “And I am Telling You,” and both are in love with Weight Watchers.

But that’s where the similarities end. Watson takes exception to Hudson and Weight Watcher’s fat shaming tone in their national ads. The Second City native doesn’t understand why Hudson would call her former, overweight self a metaphorical slave, claiming that Weight Watchers “freed” her from that supposedly awful fat girl who grew up in “dysfunction” within Chicago’s Westside.

Watson is quoted in Huffington Post as saying:

Although I understand the sentiment of the commercial — that if we believe in ourselves, we can accomplish our dreams — I feel that we should be able to celebrate weight loss or any other accomplishment without taking a jab at our former selves. The commercial disregards the fact that Big Jennifer had enough talent in her “larger that life” presence to not only win an Oscar, but to go on to become one of the most celebrated vocalists of our generation. It seems that Big Jennifer has done all of the work, but Skinny Jennifer wants to come and take all of the glory! That is so not fair!

Watson definitely has a point!
