As the MSN blogger warned: “Are you ready for one of the most disturbing stories you’ll ever hear?”

A 17-year-maid from Mupandawana, Gutu, Zimbabwe was caught lacing the porridge of her employers’ four-year-old child with her own menstrual blood.

According to NewsDay, Pelagia Mureya, who is HIV-positive, “carried out the disgusting act several times until luck ran out.”

The ruse was discovered when her employer “noticed a drop of blood when her child was eating porridge, and investigated.”

Mureya was arrested in Mupandawana, Gutu district in southern Zimbabwe, and professed ignorance of the blood.

But, NewsDay reported, “her inquisitive employer took the porridge, her child and the maid to Gutu Rural Hospital where tests confirmed it was Mureya’s menstrual blood.”

Mureya, who is from a village in Chinhoyi, was sentenced Saturday to 10 years in prison.

There was no explanation given as to why she put blood into her employers’ child’s porridge.

There is always two sides to a poisonous pie, but evil like this is never understandable or excusable. Sad indeed.

  1. THat is way pass disgusting. Why would anyone do this to another person? Just nasty. I hope she receives mental help for herself.

  2. how can they confirm it was her menstrual blood?? is it somehow different from regular blood?? im really skeptical, i need more information to believe this.

as an african i know the huge huge stigma against ppl with hiv and the horrible treatment some domestic servants can incur from their bosses/owners, so i can imagine a possibility of her being setup.
Yet, if this is totally true, then that is beyond sick. There would be no words.

  3. Are you kidding, Sandra? Menstrual blood is one of the easiest things to tell in terms of blood; it has all sorts of different hormones in it compared to regular, somatic blood. It’s essentially the remnants of a discarded womb. You can even make pretty accurate estimates on where regular blood has been taken from, depending on how much oxygen is present in it when it’s tested.

So yes, I’m pretty sure they can confirm it was HER menstrual blood.

  4. Is the employers child now HIV positive? It’s very sad all the way around… Education is still the key to stopping the violence that from being ignorant about any disease!

  5. I think you should check out employees health status and also mental health status before employing them, especially where they come into contact with children and food, there’s no way I’d give an african teenager any access to my child, especially when so many have aids and hepatitus!

  6. @martina

I was in agreement with your comment until the last part. That was just stupid on so many levels.

  7. @martina ARE YOU really that ignorant!!! People like u make me mad!

  8. @martina, you didn’t even spell hepatitis correctly. I don’t think you can comment on anyone’s intelligence

  9. She deserves lyf in prison if the baby z found positive

  10. At least learn how to spell ‘hepatitis’. Illiterate!

  11. this girl is seriously insane. and i agree if one needs a nanny she should be mentally tested fist

  12. @sandra the age and state of the cells in menstrual blood, along with the portion of it that is actual BLOOD vs mucus and other things, as well as a few stray cells from the walls of the unterus/vagina/vulva allows technicians to simply look at it under a microscope and tell what it is. Perhaps instead of “blood” they should have referred to it as menses, or menstrual fluid.

    Just an FYI.

The people involved would never have been able to catch HIV from this woman’s disgusting trick (well, unless they had a cut in their mouth and the porridge was not hot enough to destroy the virus when the blood was put in), but yeah… this made my stomach hurt.
