American sports talking heads love to lambaste European fùtbol fans for their overtly racist chanting towards black American, Latino, and African players. Throwing bananas on the field and wearing monkey masks while donning a black player’s jersey are just some of the ways international fans release their racist frustrations during sporting events.

American sports writers love to reiterate how far the average American sports fan has come from the days of Jim Crow segregation, when blacks were threatened with bodily harm for playing the sports they loved.

Now racist remarks are almost exclusively allowed and praised in political arenas. The Republican Presidential candidates have practiced racist oneupmanship throughout the race, so when Kansas Sate’s freshman guard Angel Rodriguez went to the free throw line and heard racist chants from the University of Southern Mississippi band, can we completely blame the co-eds for their behavior?

Yes your heard it right, the rabid fans were yelling, “Where’s you Green Card?!”

After a video with the offensive chant went public, Southern Mississippi’s president quickly issued an apology.

“We deeply regret the remarks made by a few students at today’s game. The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university,” Martha Saunderssaid in a statement.

“We apologize to Mr. Rodriguez and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action against the students involved in this isolated incident.”

To make matters worse, the band’s chant was not only offensive, but it was completely off base. Rodriguez was born in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, which means he a citizen of this country.

Sound-off: Do you take offense to the video of Southern Mississippi fans chanting that racist remark or was it just a harmless and playful attempt to get under Rodriguez’s skin?
