Famed conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart died earlier today after suffering an heart attack.
Joel Pollak, editor-in-chief and in-house counsel for Breitbart’s website, Breitbart.com released a statement saying that Breitbart had died unexpectedly from natural causes earlier that day in Los Angeles. He was 43 years old.
A bystander saw him collapse while out on a walk in Brentwood shortly after midnight and called paramedics, who rushed him to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he was declared dead.
It wasn’t a secret that Breitbart hated almost everything liberal. He claimed he was a Reagan conservative with libertarian leanings, so almost anytime a liberal tried to help a less fortunate person, Breitbart cried foul. “Everyone should help themselves” (not a direct quote).
BigHollywood, arguably Breitbart’s favorite site, religiously attacked what he saw as the shadow wing of liberalism. He felt that liberal “lobbyists” coerced Hollywood big-whigs to push liberal ideologies covertly through movies and their countless self-absorbed movie stars, who will attach their names to any liberal cause as long as it hides their true narcissistic aspirations.
Even though one might look at him as too combative to even be in the same room as a liberal, Breitbart was a regular on many liberal talk shows, including the uber-liberal leaning Real Time with Bill Maher. He also helped Ariana Huffington, after her 180-degree switch to liberalism, start the widely read liberal website, Huffington Post.
Frugivore didn’t particularly like Breitbart’s sketchy undercover work. After he exposed a few seemingly foolish ACORN workers for what amounted to having “compassion for a fellow human regardless of one’s profession,” he embarked on a string of pseudo-revelatory smear campaigns against high profile liberals.
I took particular exception to his ugly campaign against agriculture department employee, Shirley Sherrod. His site BigGovernment chopped and screwed video excerpts of a meeting where Sherrod was supposedly making a racist remark, but BigGov had to backtrack when a longer version of the tape showed Sherrod discussing bridging racial differences.
Either way, I’ll always remember him as someone I loved to hate and as someone that helped me have the courage to start Frugivore. Good travels Mr. Breitbart.
