I probably should be ashamed to say this but my favorite part of working out has nothing to do with the whole losing weight, getting healthy and living longer thing. Oh no, my favorite part of working out is getting to listen to some of my favorite songs without being interrupted. These songs are only in rotation when I workout, not on the way to work, not while I grocery shop, only when I workout so if I want to hear them I gotta hit the gym. My workout playlist is pretty tough if I must say so myself, check out a few of the tracks that keep me motivated, maybe some of my workout faves are yours too.
Kanye West – The New Workout Plan/Stronger/Can’t Tell Me Nothing
Want a good workout? Want to feel like Rocky did when he made it to the top of the steps? Then listen to Kanye West. These three songs make me feel unstoppable!
Destiny’s Child – Survivor
I listen to this song on heavy repeat when I have an event coming up and I know there will be some people in attendance who are not part of the “Danielle’s doing the damn thing,” fan club. This song pushes me through my workout by helping me focus on how great it will be to stick it to the haters when I walk in the room looking hot.
Waka Flocka – No Hands
Outside of the fact that No Hands just rocks hard in any situation, this song is part of my workout playlist because it helps me to forget that I’m working out. I’m so busy trying to dance on the treadmill without falling that I forget that I’m so supposed to be tired from all the exercise.
The SugarHill Gang – Rapper’s Delight
Not only is it a timeless classic, but if you’re in that homestretch on the treadmill or elliptical and feel like you’re going to pass out, this song can help you across the finish line. The quick wit rhymes and its 6 minutes + play time (depending on the version you have) have saved me from giving up many times.
What’s on your playlist?
“Scarred” by Luke Skywalker. It’s wholly inappropriate, but the bass makes me want to move.
All I Do Is Win – DJ Khaled….I ran my first half marathon and this song was playing as I crossed the finish line
any Beyonce song, well at least the uptempo songs
Hard – Rhianna f/ Young Jezzy
I keep it slow when I’m lifting weights — Corrine Bailey Rae or Maxwell
On running or swimming days, I speed it up with a little reggae — i Wayne or up tempo Bob Marley
