It’s the first meal of the day, yet so many of us choose to skip it…breakfast. There are plenty of reasons why people skip breakfast, but there are even more reasons why they shouldn’t. Eating a healthy breakfast can help you to achieve your fitness and healthy lifestyle goals. Furthermore, what you put in your mouth (or don’t) in the morning can also be a strong indicator of your future health. Here’s how eating your Wheaties each day can affect your lifelong health.

Weight Control
Some people think that skipping meals, starting with breakfast, is a great way to lose weight. That’s simply not the case. Breakfast-skipping actually has the opposite effect. Holding off until noon for that first meal usually results in uber-hunger. This can lead to an out-of-control appetite when you do eat because you’re starving. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can make weight control much more likely.

Blood sugar control
Regular meal timing, starting with breakfast, is important for even blood sugar and to balance our blood sugar throughout the day. Not only does even blood sugar help prevent diabetes, it provides more energy and better long-term health, including decreased risk of heart disease.

Energy
Whether you love working out, have an active lifestyle, or both, skipping breakfast can undermine your best efforts. Our bodies need fuel to power us through busy days and intense workouts. It all starts with breakfast. It’s no surprise that studies show that breakfast eaters have more endurance and strength than breakfast skippers.

  1. I never, evah skip breakfast. Never. Not for the reasons above, but because I truly cherish this time before heading to the office and dealing with the craziness of the day. I get up early enough so that I can prepare a delish meal, read, sip tea and generally just enjoy some me time. If for some reason I am robbed of this ritual, it really screws my day up. Loving all of the great articles here, btw 🙂

  2. What Lola said 🙂 I agree 100%

  3. Yes yes and yes! I have decided that making time for breakfast is more beneficial than hitting the snooze button 2-3 times.
