Many of us complain about the lack of quality programming for geared toward Black people on TV. If it isn’t a reality show, it doesn’t seem like it gets much play these days. To fill the void, several young, Black folks have been turning to the web to get their fix of good shows that showcase people who look like them.

A few months ago I introduced you to “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,” a hilarious web series about a young, Black woman dealing with life’s most awkward moments. And after reading, we all agreed Issa Rae—the show’s creator—was spot on.

This time around, I’d like to introduce you to “Food Heaven Made Easy,” a monthly cooking and nutrition show created by two beautiful, brown skin women, Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones. The ladies, who are both Nutritionists, aim to improve the diet and health of underserved communities. Although Lopez and Jones are based out of NYC and their show will air on Brooklyn Community Access Television, “Food Heaven Made Easy” will also be available on the web.

The first episode, “$10 Meal Time,” shows viewers how to shop for and prepare a low-cost, nutritious, and tasty meal, something I’m sure we all could use pointers on. Check it out.

As someone who is trying to do a little more cooking at home, I know I’ll be tuning in. How about you?

  1. I’ll definitely be tuning in! I’m also cooking more at home. I’m single and usually make meals for work to save on money and to help me watch my weight. So far it’s been working! But I am running out of ideas fast. This’ll be the perfect thing for me! 😀

  2. They are so adorable! And I love the message of healthy food for a low cost. Most people think its expensive to eat well.

  3. I love this! I’ve also started filming my own cooking show here in NYC called Sweet Potato Soul. It’s so nice to see other black women passionate about providing health information and healthy recipes to the greater community.
Check out my show at http://www.sweetpotatosoul.com : )

P.S. I just discovered Frugivore, and I’m hooked!

  4. I love this!

  5. Hey, Shane! I can vouch for Jenné and her Sweet Potato Soul video series. I love watching them online.
