It’s been over 5 months since the ball dropped and we shouted, “Happy New Year!” I’m sure we all made fitness resolutions: “I am going to the gym five days a week in 2011,” “I am hiring a personal trainer and getting back in shape,” or “I am going to run and eat a healthy breakfast every morning.”

How many people have stuck to their 2011 fitness resolutions? Ok…maybe 50%? I think that I’m even being generous with that figure.

While it’s a positive action to set high-level goals to push our fitness levels, it’s better to swim gradually toward our fitness resolutions. If your goal is to attend the gym five days a week, why not start out with attending once a week for the first month, twice a week for the second month, etcetera. With gradual steps, you may even surprise yourself and work your way up to seven days a week, surpassing your initial goal. It’s never too late to revise your plan.

What was your fitness resolution for 2011? Share how you’re doing.

  1. My New Year Resolution for 2011! I decided to hire a Personal Trainer! (Never Happened) I did join a gym but I cannot find the time to go like I want 2! So as I make a commitment today! I will re-start the gym on Monday. I’m out of town for a month but my sister said I could utilize her membership! So wish me luck as I re commit myself to getting back in shape for 2011! This is a life style change that I need to put first on my list of priorities!

  2. My resolutions were to complete a round of P90X (I did it!) and run a 10 mile race (working on it for September). I set fitness goals this year instead of weight-loss goals, and I’ve been more successful at both.

  3. Completed my first goal to run my first Marathon in March 2011, but have fallen off the wagon since. I went from working out 5-6 days/week to 2 days since March 20; after the marathon and the mini storm kicked my butt. However, the big 3-0 is tomorrow (Jun 1) and my gift to myself is to get back on track. Memorial day weekend helped with 4 days of hitting the gym. Update to follow in 4 months.
