Move over red apple and yellow banana. Orange has got some mega-power.

A recent study in the Archives of Internal Medicine, suggests that alpha-carotene, an antioxidant found in orange-yellow produce, may be linked to longevity of life. The study looked at the alpha-carotene levels in the blood of more than 15,000 adult participants. Researchers found that the participants with the highest levels of alpha-carotene were less likely to die from cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other fatal diseases, than those with lower levels of the antioxidant. Those participants had a 40% less likely chance of dying compared to their counterparts.

So, even though that doesn’t mean that an orange tomorrow will guaranteed you a 90th birthday, upping your orange-yellow fruit intake can have a significant positive impact on your life.
